I recently stayed for 4 nights at Chettinadu Mansion, in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu. I loved my stay there. The hotel staff are helpful, the rooms are excellent and the food is delicious. I have to highlight the wonderful work that the manager, Mr. Gopa Kumar, does. I am a Professor of Architecture at the University of Brasília and my interest in India is to discover new places and photograph their monuments. Well, Kumar organized all the logistics of the temples and houses I wanted to visit, hiring drivers and tuc-tuc. On the last day, to make my life easier, he accompanied me to visit two temples, indicating the correct route to the driver, so that I could calmly photograph them before boarding again for Delhi. A hotel to be recommended to everyone who wants to discover this beautiful region of India. Cláudia Estrela Porto, March 13, 2024.

I'm on day 23 in India and I have witnessed and learned a lot about this country. And, as I had read before travelling here, do your research on your accommodations. What I would add to that advice is the following, do your research and then cut what you read in half. Stayed one evening at Chettinadu Mansion. If you look to the amenities listed on, for example, Tripadvisor or Booking.com, and expect to actually realise these amenities, bless you if you can find them. I walked around the town to find something to eat as dinner was at 7:30 (actually 8:00), no luck. When dinner arrived, I (like others have written) was served a watery, tastless dal, floury chapati and greasy cauliflower - the latter which I dunked in the dal to make it palatable. I can't underscore how much I enjoyed the 7Up, and I don't drink soda. The room was comfortable, but dark. And, as the electrical outlets are heritage - be mindful plugging in your laptop - mine didn't charge. All this is to say, pass on this hotel. You'll be hungry and bored. On a positive note, the breakfast coffee was good and the staff lovely. They are not to be faulted. I suspect someone is making a fine profit on the efforts of the staff.

The hotel is located in a hundred-year-old building built with great opulence by a local businessman made good using expensive imported materials - wood, tiles, marble etc. Room was very comfortable and bathroom facilities clean though a little rudimentary. Generous portions of tasty food.

What a fantastic place. The amazing location is great for a gentle walk around the town. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The activities were great. Definitely do the cooking experience. Would definitely return. We used the pool which is a short walk from the hotel, but very refreshing. Great stay

Absolute heritage mansion with basic modern amenities. Rooms are medium sized . No TV , internet was bit slow (I think it's BSNL BB). 4G coverage also will be feeble. Only the one portion of mansion is open to public .Could have been better if they allowed access to whole property.Overall well maintained retaining the old charm& Glory. There is an in-house restaurant till night. Dishes are mostly catered to non spicy pallette(even though we requested spicy ) , you won't get that authentic taste as in the chettinad mess's outside kanadukathan. Staffs are really amiable .Bicycles available for roaming around(free) also they would arrange Bullock cart ride (chargeable) , a chettinad museum and virtual walkthrough of history (both we skipped) you can enjoy. Even though free visits to two other nearby mansions were mentioned by mansion staff ; those housekeepers were demanding 50₹ per head entry fee(would be a waste of time and money so we skipped). We visited athangudi palace. Parking is limited to 5cars . Street lights are scarce in the entire block ( park at your own risk outside premises). If you plan to stay in kanadukathan this is the only heritage option others are all reconstructed properties .
